Photofacial

A Photofacial (also called Photorejuvenation) is a cosmetic dermatology procedure that treats several different skin conditions. A photofacial utilizes laser light to penetrate the skin and reduce brown sun spots and red blood vessels.

Photofacials also promote collagen production and overall skin rejuvenation. Laser Photofacials treat numerous skin conditions including: Age spots, Liver Spots, Hyperpigmentation, Wrinkles, Enlarged pores, Facial veins, Freckles and Melasma. Results will vary depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment but all patients who have photofacials should experience a reduction of blood vessels, reduction of sun spots, smoother skin, rejuvenated skin and more even skin tone throughout.

Most patients report few side effects. After treatment, mild redness and skin sensitivity is common. Patients should avoid prolonged sun exposure for 14 days after the procedure. Very rarely temporary hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or hypopigmentation (light spots) can result from treatment. Patients typically require a series of four treatments 6 weeks apart for lasting results.

MaxG PhotoFacial Skin Rejuvenation

Treatment of Skin Pigment and Blood Vessels (PhotoFacial)

The Cynosure ICON MAX G™ IPL photofacial harnesses the power of light to remove broken blood vessels on the face, redness caused by rosacea, and pigmentation caused by sun damage. This procedure is commonly referred to as a PhotoFacial.

Photorejuvenation is fast, with most treatments sessions lasting about 30 minutes. Depending on the patient’s condition, several treatment sessions may be recommended to achieve the best results.

For our PhotoFacial we use The Cynosure ICON MAX G™ IPL, a powerful device that uses a unique filter on the IPL light focusing its energy on treating vessels and pigment without putting normal skin at risk.

The Cynosure ICON MAX G™ IPL treats:

  • Treatment of sun spots and skin discoloration
  • Treatment of broken blood vessels
  • Rosacea Treatment

How it works?

Using the principle of selective photothermolysis, the photofacial  treatments target different chromophores in the skin, which selectively absorb the laser or light energy as heat and yield the desired response. These optimal wavelengths of light clear vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting the chromophores of hemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions). These damaged lesions are then cleared by the body, removing the appearance of the lesion from the skin.

Description of session

The process is fast and simple. You will lie on a reclining chair, and a cool gel is applied to your face or the body area to be treated. Next, light pulses are applied to your skin in several passes. Our clients report that the sensation feels like a mild “snapping,” like a rubber band against the skin. Most people find the treatment easy to tolerate, but if you have a low pain threshold, we can do more for you. You will wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the light pulses produced by the system. Each session takes only about 30 minutes to perform.

BeforeAfter

After treatment session

After treatment, a sunburn-like sensation and some minor swelling is common, but will resolve rapidly. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after in-office treatments.
Pigmented lesions undergo a mild desquamation and  start sloughing off within two  days, while the vascular lesions blanch and then resolve within 10 to 14 days.
In the weeks following treatment, clearer, revitalized skin will appear, and people around you will notice your brighter appearance.
